HC Deb 07 December 1893 vol 19 c651
MR. J. CHAMBERLAIN (Birmingham, W.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether the Government have now received the Report of Sir Gerald Portal with regard to Uganda; if so, when it will be laid upon the Table; and whether he can state any time at which the Government will be prepared to announce their intentions as to the occupation and future administration of the country?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. W. E. GLADSTONE, Edinburgh, Midlothian)

In answer to my right hon. Friend, I have to say that Sir Gerald Portal has recently returned to this country, but the preparation of his Report had not then been completed, nor, so far as I am aware, is it completed up to the present moment, although he has been very busily engaged upon bringing it to a final shape. As to the time when it will be ready, no communications have been made to the Government. That being so, the remainder of the question naturally falls to the ground.
