HC Deb 07 December 1893 vol 19 c625
SIR J. KENNAWAY (Devon, Honiton)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether any decision has been come to in regard to the Bill for alteration of the Maramakatayam Marriage Law in Malabar, which, having passed the Madras Council, was reported on by a Commission appointed by the Viceroy, by whom the matter was referred to the Secretary of State?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. GEORGE RUSSELL, North Beds.)

The Malabar Marriage Act did not pass the Madras Legislative Council, but was referred, after leave had been given for its introduction, to a Commission. The Report of this Commission was received by the Secretary of State in March, but he has not yet heard what decision has been come to in India with regard to the Bill. He will inquire.
