SAMUEL SMITH (Flintshire)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the report that the Indian Government intend to re-impose the Cotton Duties; and whether, in that ease, they will impose countervailing duties on Indian manufactures so as to deprive the proposed measure of a protective character?
*MR. GEORGE RUSSELLThe Secretary of State has not heard of any intention on the part of the Government of India to propose a re-imposition of the Cotton Duties. It is, therefore, unnecessary to consider the point referred to in the second part of my hon. Friend's question.
