HC Deb 13 April 1893 vol 11 c193
MR. JACKS (Stirlingshire)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture if he is aware that a great amount of disease is spread amongst horses by the horse-boxes on railways not being properly disinfected; and if he can give instructions that they will in future be disinfected the same as cattle trucks are?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE (Mr. H. GARDNER,) Essex, Saffron Walden

I have no reason to believe that a great amount of disease is spread amongst horses in the manner suggested in the question. The cleansing of horse-boxes is already provided for by Article 103 of the Animals Order of 1886, a copy of which I shall be happy to show to my hon. Friend; and if he is in possession of any information pointing to any evasion of the requirements of that Order, I shall be glad to receive particulars and to give the matter my attention.
