WATTI beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether any allowance has been made in the Estimates for the current year for the Royal Naval Volunteers under the proposed transference from naval to military control; and, if so, what sum; and whether any of the corps or men have applied to be enrolled under the new conditions?
§ MR. E. STANHOPENo special provision has been made in the Army Estimates for these corps; there were no means of making any such Estimate. Four corps have made inquiries as to the terms on which they could join the Submarine Miners; and one corps made a direct offer of their services, which, unfortunately, could not be accepted, as the locality did not admit of Submarine Miners.
