HC Deb 15 June 1891 vol 354 cc397-8
MR. BIGWOOD (Middlesex, Brentford)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the Excise Authorities declare that they are unable as the law now stands to preven rectifiers who methy late from "grogging" bonded casks which have contained spirit for methylation; and, if so, whether any alteration in the law is proposed, to enable the authorities to deal with the practice in a satisfactory manner, and thus stop this serious leakage in revenue?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. JACKSON,) Leeds, N.

The facts with regard to "grogging" by rectifiers are as stated by my hon. Friend. The question of "grogging" generally is now being carefully considered by the Board of Inland Revenue and Customs.
