HC Deb 15 June 1891 vol 354 c398
MR. FURNESS (Hartlepool)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the grievances of the Second Class Clerks in the Customs service at the out ports; whether, in November of last year, they placed those grievances, by way of Memorial, before the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Customs; whether he is aware that as yet no reply has been made to that Memorial; and whether he will order an inquiry to be made into their case with a view to redressing their grievances?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN, St. George's,) Hanover Square

The Memorial to which the hon. Member refers was forwarded to the Treasury by the Commissioners of Customs on April 27, together with a Report upon the matters complained of, and proposals for meeting to a certain extent these complaints. The proposals are still under consideration, and I can assure the hon. Member that full attention shall be given to the case.
