HC Deb 11 June 1891 vol 354 c158
MR. HARTLEY (Islington, N.)

I beg-to ask the Attorney General whether his attention has been called to the numerous circulars concerning lotteries, which are sent from Hamburg to this country to all classes of the community, including schoolboys; and whether any steps can be taken to stop the practice?

*THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir R. WEBSTER,) Isle of Wight

My attention has not been called to the matter mentioned in the hon. Member's question, but the subject has constantly been before the authorities. As the law at present stands, no steps can be taken to stop the transmission of such letters by post. I would, however, call the attention of the hon. Member to pages 21 to 26 of the Report of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which was presented to Parliament on the 12th of March last, where he will find the whole subject dealt with.
