HC Deb 26 February 1891 vol 350 c1701
MR. J. ROWLANDS

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether, since the result of the inquiry by the Departmental Committee last year showed that there were 351 vacancies on the staff of the first-class sorters in London, he will state when it is intended to fill up these vacancies; and whether, in view of the fact that most of the officers who have been performing the duties of the first class for a considerable period have done so without any additional remuneration, the appointments to the first-class vacancies will take effect from the 28th of July last?

MR. RAIKES

In reply to the hon. Member's question. I hope that the appointments will be filled shortly. The promotions cannot, in any case, take effect from the date mentioned, as the additional appointments were not created until several months later.
