HC Deb 28 March 1890 vol 343 c156
MR. BLANE (Armagh, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether representations have reached him that District Inspector Bigley, of Lurgan, lodged a complaint with the superior officer of a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary, named Dennis Burke, that he had been seen walking in company with a Nationalist car owner, named John Byrne, of Portadown, and that, in consequence of the report, Burke was removed to another station; and whether the Government will take any action in the matter?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR,) Manchester, E.

The Constabulary Authorities report that the constable named was not transferred to another station on the grounds mentioned in the question, but because of his having absented himself from his station without leave.
