HC Deb 24 July 1890 vol 347 c716
MR. SYDNEY BUXTON (Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any Papers on the Slave Trade will be laid before Parliament prior to the close of the Session?

* SIR J. FERGUSSON

We do not propose to present any Papers respecting the Slave Trade, except the Brussels Act, during the present Session. As the Brussels General Act will entirely alter the conditions of the suppression of the trade, it is proposed to discontinue the presentation of Papers annually in the form of the old Slave Trade Papers, and instead to lie on the Table from time to time collections of Papers which may be of special interest.

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when the General Act of the Brussels Conference on the Slave Trade will be in the hands of Members?

* SIR J. FERGUSSON

The translations are being made; and as it has been found impossible to complete them as far as the voluminous Protocols are concerned before the close of the Session, the Act will be laid on the Table separately at an early date?
