HC Deb 24 July 1890 vol 347 cc715-6
MR. HOBHOUSE (Somerset, E.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether any arrangements have now been made for improving the postal communication from Somerset and the West of England to towns in Hampshire and Dorset?

* MR. RAIKES

In reply to the hon. Member, I have to state that considerable improvements have been made in the postal communication from Somerset and the West of England to towns in Hampshire and Dorset. At Southampton, the delivery of letters by day mail is now effected at 9 a.m. instead of 11.45 a.m. At Bournemouth the gain in time has been 1 hour 30 minutes, and in towns in Hampshire or Dorset generally the delivery has been materially accelerated.
