HC Deb 25 February 1890 vol 341 c1168
MR. CUNINGHAME GRAHAM (Lanark, N. W.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury if he contemplates giving further facilities for the discussion of the Eight Hours Question; and, if so, when?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. W. H. SMITH,) Strand, Westminster

I freely recognise the importance of the subject, and I am anxious that it should be fully discussed; but I observe that the hon. Member has a Motion relating to this subject down on the Paper for March 18th, and that a Bill is also down for March 26th. Under those circumstances I am unable to give any pledge on a subject so far in advance.

MR. C. GRAHAM

Can the right hon. Gentleman hold out any hope of a day being given for the discussion of the Eight Hours Bill?

MR. W. H. SMITH

It is obviously impossible at this moment to give any undertaking of the kind.
