HC Deb 07 August 1890 vol 348 c99
MR. GOURLEY (Sunderland)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any and what arrangements have been arrived at with the Newfoundland delegates, regarding the Anglo-French partnership and fishery disputes; whether the modus vivendi regarding lobster fisheries is to be permanent; and whether the Bait Act is to be repealed, or a new arrangement entered into, similar to that signed at Paris on 14th November, 1881?

SIR J. FERGUSSON

1. No arrangement has yet been come to. 2. No; the modus vivendi is for this season only. 3. There is no intention of repealing the Bait Act, so far as Her Majesty's Government are aware. It is impossible to say at present what the nature of any future arrangement may be.
