HC Deb 24 April 1890 vol 343 c1282
SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the prospect of a great issue of new gold coin to replace the present light gold, he will take measures to procure an improved design for the future gold coinage?

*MR. GOSCHEN

A new design for the head of Her Gracious Majesty the Queen is under consideration. As for the reverse, nothing, in my opinion, is more handsome than the St. George and the Dragon, and we should propose to retain it.
