HC Deb 09 May 1889 vol 335 cc1550-1
MR. HUBBARD (Bucks, N.)

asked the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been drawn to the growing desire for a greater uniformity of measure in the sale of milk; and, if the Department could frame regulations under which all milkcans will be measured and stamped by local Inspectors of Weights and Measures with a scale of imperial gallons.

*THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Sir M. HICKS BEACH,) Bristol, W.

The Board of Trade have no power under the existing law to frame such a regulation as the hon. Member refers to, but if the Bill now before the House passes in its present form, the Board will be in a position to require local authorities to frame regulations by which milk measures will have their contents in imperial gallons ascertained by the Local Inspectors.
