HC Deb 02 August 1889 vol 339 c171
DR. FARQUHARSON (Aberdeenshire, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether it is the case, as recently stated in the Daily News, that Government have appointed a Departmental Committee to investigate the subject of colour blindness among the seamen of the Mercantile Marine; and, if this be so, whether the Report of the Committee will be laid upon the Table of the House before the end of this Session?

* THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Sir M. HICKS BEACH, Bristol, W.)

The Board of Trade have referred the subject of colour blindness among seamen to a Departmental Committee, which will have scientific assistance in its inquiries into the matter. It will not be possible for the Report of the Committee to be laid on the Table of the House before the end of this Session.

DR. FARQUHARSON

I beg to give notice that I will take an early opportunity next Session of calling attention to this question, and to one or two other important questions connected with the Mercantile Marine.
