HC Deb 11 June 1888 vol 326 cc1689-90
MR. LABOUCHERE (Northampton)

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether there is a canteen at the War Office; whether, if so, spirituous liquors are sold there; what are the conditions under which the establishment is carried on; and how the profits are distributed?

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY, WAR DEPARTMENT (Mr. BRODRICK) (Surrey, Guildford)

(who replied) said: There is no regular canteen at the War Office; but the members of the Office have formed among themselves a Co-operative Society fur the provision of luncheons, and among their arrangements is a luncheon bar, at which, among other things, liquors are sold. There are not intended to be any profits, and any which incidentally arise are applied in reduction of prices.
