HC Deb 13 July 1888 vol 328 cc1246-7
MR. CONYBEARE (Cornwall, Camborne)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether there was in the Metropolitan Police an amount of discontent which threatened to result in a strike; whether this discontent was caused by the arbitrary conduct of Sir Charles Warren, and in consequence of the odious duty imposed upon the police of bâtoning unoffending citizens?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

The hon. Member has not given me Notice of this Question. I can only say I believe every suggestion of fact which it contains to be utterly unfounded.
