HC Deb 11 August 1888 vol 330 cc389-90
MR. SUMMERS (Huddersfield)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether District Inspector Irwin, who controlled the firing of the police at Mitchelstown on the occasion of the fatal shooting there last September, has been retired on an allowance of £200 a-year; whether the superannuation to which he would be entitled is £256; and, if so, to what is this reduction due?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. MADDEN) (Dublin University)

(who replied) said: I am informed that it is not the case that the District Inspector named was entitled to a superannuation allowance of £256. The Treasury measured the amount at £200 a year—a rate which it was considered the circumstances of his case warranted.
