HC Deb 23 April 1888 vol 325 c173
DR. TANNER (Cork Co., Mid)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, What was the character of the injuries inflicted upon Captain Plunkett at the recent suppressed meeting in Youghal; and, whether there is any ground for the statement, which appeared in The Times newspaper of Saturday, 6th of April, as emanating from the Lord Chancellor of Ireland, that Captain Plunkett was seriously wounded?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.)

Captain Plunkett was, fortunately, not seriously injured on the occasion in question. The Lord Chancellor has favoured me with a communication, to the effect that he cannot find in the newspaper referred to any such statement as that attributed, nor, as a matter of fact, did he ever make such statement.

DR. TANNER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that it appeared in The Times of that date?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

I am not aware of that.
