HC Deb 22 March 1887 vol 312 c1144
MR. KING (Hull, Central)

asked the Under Secretary of State for India, When the Government propose to ask the House to appoint the Committee on Indian affairs promised last Session?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Sir JOHN GORST) (Chatham)

Since last Session a very important Commission, to which I have several times alluded in answering Questions, has been appointed in India, and is now engaged in making a comprehensive inquiry into the organization of the Government Departments in India. Until this Commission has reported, the Secretary of State does not intend to ask Parliament to appoint a Joint Committee on Indian Affairs.
