HC Deb 15 April 1887 vol 313 cc1005-6
MR. F. S. STEVENSON (Suffolk, Eye)

asked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether it is the intention of the Government, as stated in The Standard of Thursday, to propose that a contribution to the Imperial Institute should be paid out of monies provided by Parliament; and, if so, what sum will be required for the purpose?

THE FIRST LOED (Mr. W. H. SMITH) (Strand, Westminster)

There is no foundation for the report that the Government will propose that a contribution should be paid to the Imperial Institute out of monies provided by this j House. The whole story is an absurd canard.
