HC Deb 20 September 1886 vol 309 cc981-2
MR. MATTHEW KENNY (Tyrone, Mid)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, If he will state whether the out-door officials of the Customs and Excise Departments will be brought under the scope of the inquiry of the Royal Commission on the Public Departments?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Lord RANDOLPH CHURCHILL) (Paddington, S.)

I have to remind the hon. Member that the Commission to which he alludes is appointed to inquire into the establishments of the Civil Service generally; and obviously the class of servants he alludes to is within the scope of that Commission.
