HC Deb 10 May 1886 vol 305 cc567-8
MR. FORWOOD (Lancashire, Ormskirk)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, Whether the refusal of the Postal authorities in Liverpool to deliver a telegram sent from Oswestry on the 16th April, addressed "Pierce and Hartley, Solicitors, Liverpool," and one sent on the 20th April, at 10.37 a.m. from Coniston, addressed "Thornely and Cameron, Solicitors, Liverpool," on the ground that "the delivery could not have been effected without reference to a Directory," complies with the latest instructions of the Postmaster General in reference to the delivery of telegrams?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. HENRY H. FOWLER) (Wolverhampton, E.)

In reply to the hon. Member I have to state that, although it is open to doubt whether, in the cases referred to, the senders had done their best to give a sufficient address, the Postmaster General is inclined to think that the addresses given were sufficient to insure the delivery of the telegrams, and renewed instructions on the subject have been given.
