HC Deb 24 August 1886 vol 308 cc375-6
MR. E. R. RUSSELL (Glasgow, Bridgeton)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, What will be the official relation between General Sir Redvers Buller and the Inspector General; and, whether the powers of the Inspector General will be curtailed in consequence of General Buller's appointment?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Sir MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH) (Bristol, W.)

There will be no curtailment of the powers of the Inspector General in consequence of Sir Redvers Buller's appointment. The relations between the In- spector General and Sir Redvers Buller will be, as I understand them, precisely the same as the relations which now exist between the Inspector General and Captain Plunket.
