HC Deb 19 March 1885 vol 295 c1691
MR. COLERIDGE KENNARD

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether it is a fact that numerous regiments of Volunteers have applied for leave to increase their strength; and, if so, whether he will state the number of applications received, and the grounds upon which their proposals were declined?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

Thirty-four Volunteer corps have applied for an increased establishment. Of these applications, 16 were granted and 18 refused, some on military and some on financial grounds. Each case was considered on its merits.
