HC Deb 05 March 1885 vol 295 c122
VISCOUNT LEWISHAM

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether he can state the reason why not a single Officer of the Marine Artillery or Infantry has been appointed to the general staff of the force under General Graham, although that force has held Suakin for more than a year?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

The Military Authorities are not agreed as to what are the qualifications necessary in an officer of the Royal Marines; but General Graham will be authorized to select such officers at present serving at Suakin as he may think right.
