HC Deb 02 March 1885 vol 294 c1759
MR. ARTHUR O'CONNOR

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If he will state the result of the special inquiries which he promised, on the 10th November last, to institute into the sanitary condition of Maryborough Gaol?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

A complete sanitary inspection of the Maryborough Prison has been made by the architect of the Prisons Board and the medical officer, with the result that the latter has been able to certify that none of the sickness or deaths which occurred in the prison last year can be attributed to any defect in the sanitary arrangements of the building. In the course of their examination a few improvements suggested themselves in these arrangements, and they are now; being carried out.
