HC Deb 14 November 1884 vol 293 cc1729-30
SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTE

Sir, I wish to put a Question to the Government as to the progress of Public Business. As we are neither in possession of the information which has been received from Lord Northbrook, nor in possession of the financial proposals of the Government with regard to the Vote of £2,000,000 which has been taken with regard to the Egyptian operations, we are not in a position satisfactorily to discuss the Egyptian policy of the Government. I think it would be the most convenient course that we should wait for the financial proposals of the Government instead of making a separate Motion. Therefore, I wish to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he proposes to take Ways and Means on Monday, and to make his financial proposals?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. CHILDERS)

Yes, Sir; I propose on Monday, in Committee of Ways and Means, to make certain financial proposals.
