asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, What had been the result of his inquiries into the case of the three men who had recently been sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour for sleeping in an open field?

in reply, said, that having learnt the circumstances of this case, he had recommended that the men should be discharged.
