HC Deb 15 June 1882 vol 270 cc1237-8
MR. HICKS

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that workmen were employed last Sunday upon the repairs now in progress at the Continental Hotel, Waterloo Place; and, whether he will take any steps in the matter?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

I do not think this is a matter in which I am called upon to interfere.

MR. HICKS

asked the right hon. and learned Gentleman whether it was not a fact that no steps could be taken in that matter under the 34 & 35 Vict. without the intervention of the police or the stipendiary magistrates of London?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

That does not alter the answer I have given.
