HC Deb 19 May 1881 vol 261 c800
MR. ONSLOW

asked the Secretary of State for India, Whether his attention has been called to the number of Indian Gold Mining Companies whose prospectuses have been issued during the past two years; and, whether the Noble Lord or Secretary of State in Council could not issue some warning note to the public to guard them against investing their money in these highly speculative concerns, at the same time without interfering with the legitimate operation of capital?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

Sir, I can only say that the Report to the Government of India by Mr. B. Smith on the gold yielding capabilities of Wynaad has been made public. That contains all the information in my possession on the subject, and having made it public I think I have done all in my power to enable the public to form their own opinion as to tine various schemes which have lately been presented to them.
