HC Deb 18 February 1881 vol 258 c1343
MR. ARTHUR O'CONNOR

asked the hon. Baronet the Member for Coleraine to state whether the provisions of this Bill were, that the Irish paupers in question should be returned after a residence of five years in this country. If that was intended, he should certainly be compelled to oppose the introduction of the Bill.

MR. CALLAN

said, he should be reluctantly compelled to oppose the Bill at that stage, unless the hon. Baronet gave the desired information.

SIR HERVEY BRUCE

pointed out that the Bill was simply an instalment of justice to Ireland, and provided that paupers should not be returned to Ireland if they had been in England live years.

Bill to regulate the Removal of Poor Persons, ordered to be brought in by Sir HERVEY BRUCE, Mr. CORKY, and Mr. LEWIS.

Bill presented, and read the first time. [Bill 89.]
