HC Deb 03 February 1881 vol 258 cc62-3
COLONEL MAKINS

asked the First Commissioner of Works, Whether, looking to the probability that the sittings of the House may be continued beyond the hours of darkness during which the signal lamp on the Clock Tower would be available, and also with reference to Wednesday and other morning sittings, he will consider the practicability of hoisting a flag on the tower, or using some other signal, to indicate that the House is sitting, during the hours of daylight.

MR. SHAW LEFEVRE,

in reply, said, he hoped he was justified in assuming that the House would not often sit until daylight when it met at 4 o'clock, and that it would scarcely be worth while, in his opinion, to act upon the suggestion of the hon. and gallant Member so far as the Sittings on Wednesdays were concerned.
