HC Deb 28 April 1881 vol 260 c1312
MR. DICK-PEDDIE

asked the Lord Advocate, If it is intended to fill up the vacant judgeship in the Court of Session; and, if it is, when it is likely that the appointment of a Judge will be made?

THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. J. M'LAREN)

My hon. Friend is no doubt aware that there is a Bill pending in the other branch of the Legislature for reducing the number of Judges in the Court of Session. Until that Bill is proceeded with, or withdrawn, it will be improper to take any steps for filling up the vacancy in the Judgeship; and I am unable, at present, to give a definite answer to his Question.
