THORNHILLasked the Secretary of State for War, Why Surgeon Majors of Household Cavalry are compelled to retire at the age of fifty-five without further promotion, whereas in other branches of the service Surgeon Majors, at and after the age of fifty-five, can attain higher rank, and their compulsory retirement does not occur till the age of sixty?
§ MR. CHILDERSSir, the hon. Member must be under some misapprehension. Surgeon Majors in every branch of the Service are compulsorily retired at the age of 55.
