HC Deb 03 June 1880 vol 252 c1079
SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTE

asked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether he intends to propose any measure for the reduction of the accumulated deficiency in the Friendly Societies' Account similar to that which he has proposed in respect of the Saving Banks' Account?

MR. GLADSTONE

Sir, some measure of the kind will undoubtedly be requisite. It is not a matter of necessity during the present year; but, at the same time, if time permits, I shall be glad to introduce a measure of that kind during the present Session. At any rate, it must be attended to at an early period next Session in order to provide the funds necessary for meeting the calls which will arise.
