HC Deb 31 March 1879 vol 245 c13
MAJOR O'BEIRNE

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether any and what addition will be made to the numerical strength of non-commissioned officers and men of Brigade Depôts?

COLONEL STANLEY

In reply to the hon. and gallant Gentleman's Question, I have to say that it is not intended to increase the establishment of non-commissioned officers at the brigade depôts; because it is felt that that establishment, together with the Staff placed under the command of the officers, is amply sufficient for all purposes. As regards the rank and file, it is intended to increase the establishment of 15 depôts from 100 to 200 or 280 men. I have already explained why that has been done in the depôts where both battalions are at present abroad.
