HC Deb 27 June 1878 vol 241 cc324-5
MR. FRENCH

asked the President of the Local Government Board, If he can inform the House when the Return, ordered at the instance of the honourable Member for Cork on the 29th of January last, of the number of paupers removed from England and Scotland to Ireland, is likely to be presented?

MR. SCLATER-BOOTH

, in reply, said, that the Return moved for by the hon. Member for Cork (Mr. Downing) was a troublesome one to obtain, because the particulars were numerous and had to be obtained from 650 authorities in England alone. He had now full information from England. The Returns from Scotland had not been yet obtained; that was the sole cause of the delay. Telegrams had been sent to Scotland on the subject; and if the Returns should reach him to-morrow, he would lay them on the Table to-morrow afternoon.
