§ MR. E. STANHOPENo intimation has been received here that it is intended 1167 for the present to raise fresh troops in India to take the place of those that have been despatched to Malta. Should the service, however, be prolonged, the Government of India, who are responsible for its peace and security, may think it necessary to complete their normal military establishment.
