HC Deb 23 July 1878 vol 242 cc43-4

Message from Her Majesty brought up, and read by Mr. Speaker (all the Members being uncovered), as followeth:—

VICTORIA R.

Her Majesty having agreed to a Marriage proposed between His Royal Highness Arthur William Patrick Albert, Duke of Connaught and of Strathearne, Earl of Sussex, Duke of Saxony, Prince of Saxe Coburg and Gotha, and Her Royal Highness Princess Louise Margaret Alexandra Victoria Agnes of Prussia, third daughter of His Royal Highness Prince Friedrich Carl Nikolaus of Prussia, has thought fit to communicate it to the House of Commons.

The numerous proofs which the Queen has received from Her faithful Commons of their Loyalty to the Throne, and of their attachment to Her person and family, leave Her Majesty no doubt of their readiness to enable Her Majesty to make a further provision for His Royal Highness.

V.R.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

I beg to move that this House will, on Thursday next, resolve itself into a Committee to take into consideration Her Majesty's most gracious Message.

SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

I beg to give Notice that on Thursday, on the Motion that Her Majesty's most gracious Message be taken into consideration, I shall move, as an Amendment, for certain Papers which go to show that there is no Constitutional precedent earlier than the present reign for this application.

Motion agreed to.

Committee thereupon on Thursday.
