§ MR. CHILDERSasked the Postmaster General, Whether his attention has been called to the use of the Telephone by Telegraph Departments and Telegraph Companies abroad; and, whether it is his intention to introduce it in the Postal Telegraph Service?
§ LORD JOHN MANNERSSir, the use of the telephone by the German telegraphic administration has been brought under my notice; but, from the result of the trials which have been made here by officers of the Post Office, it is evident that the instrument is at present unsuitable for the purposes of public telegraphy, and I do not, therefore, propose to introduce it in that branch of the Postal Telegraph Service.
