objected to the system now in existence in the Customs, where, for example, in various ports throughout the country a sum of £13,000 was expended for collection, and the amount collected was only £3.

Vote agreed to.

(9.) Motion made, and Question proposed, That a sum, not exceeding £1,338,850, be granted to Her Majesty, to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March 1878, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Inland Revenue Department.

MR. BRUEN

moved the reduction of the Vote by £84, to be saved by abolishing the Carlow district.
