HC Deb 23 April 1877 vol 233 c1672
MR. WHALLEY

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, If he will be good enough to inform the House, whether the expenditure by the Solicitor of the Treasury in the conduct of Crown prosecutions is subjected to any other audit or supervision than that of the general audit of receipts and payments by the Accountant General; and, if so, what is the nature of any special audit or supervision of such expenditure by the Solicitor of the Treasury, and by whom exercised?

MR. W. H. SMITH

, in reply, said, that the expenditure in question was subject to the audit, not of the Accountant General, but of the Auditor and Controller General, as provided by the Act 29 & 30 Vict.. c. 59, and the Treasury Solicitor, in conducting these prosecutions, was subject to the supervision of the Lords of the Treasury.
