HC Deb 12 April 1877 vol 233 cc973-4
MR. MACKINTOSH

asked the Postmaster General to state, Why, notwithstanding the urgency of the case, no agreement has yet been made for the carriage of the Mails by steamer from Strome Ferry to the Hebrides?

LORD JOHN MANNERS

It is true that no agreement has been come to. I apprehend that the landowners do not see their way to raise the necessary contributions, and the cost of the existing service exceeds the whole sum received for the postage of the letters.
