HC Deb 12 April 1877 vol 233 c974
MR. WILBRAHAM EGERTON

asked the Vice President of the Council, Whether he is aware that inspectors and others who have been in contact with animals suffering from cattle plague are allowed by the local authority in London and Middlesex to leave the infected premises without disinfecting their clothes, as required by section 61 of the Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act; and whether the Privy Council will take any steps to prevent the spread of disease in that way?

VISCOUNT SANDON

The inspectors of the Local Authority are entirely under the direction of the Local Authority. We have no information that the Local Authority has sanctioned the omission of the precautions required by the Act as to the disinfection. of persons who have been in contact with the disease; but, fearing that sufficient attention may not have been paid to these requirements, the attention of the Local Authorities has already been called to the provisions of Section 61 of the Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act, with the view to insure greater care. I have just been informed that the Middlesex authorities have issued the strictest order as to disinfection of the clothes of persons who have been in contact with diseased animals.
