§ MR. P. J. SMYTHasked the hon. and learned Member for Limerick, Whether, in the event of his failing to obtain by ballot within the next fortnight a favourable opportunity for bringing forward the Resolution which stands in his name on the Notice Paper with reference to Home Rule, it is his intention to apply to the head of the Government to grant him a day for that purpose?
§ MR. BUTTMr. Speaker, the hon. Member can scarcely expect me to give any answer to the Question he has put to me. He asks me what I intend to do in a contingency which has not arisen, and which never may arise. Any future action I may take must depend upon circumstances which I cannot foresee; and even if I could foresee them I would be very imprudent if I made that action the subject of public discussion in the House, or committed myself to any statement in relation to it. I can only say that I have not the slightest doubt that an opportunity will be found of submitting to the House the Motion to which the hon. Member has referred. If I need advice, as to the best and most advantageous mode of bringing it forward, I will take counsel with those with whom I am in the habit of acting in this House.
