HC Deb 04 July 1876 vol 230 c947
MR. WHALLEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade, with reference to the project for a tunnel between the shores of England and France, Whether the Government have given any sanction or encouragement to such project?

SIR CHARLES ADDERLEY

What has passed between this country and Prance relating to the Straits Tunnel has been fully laid before Parliament. Before anything could take practical shape there would have to be a Treaty, which is a matter not in my Department, but the House would certainly be fully informed.

In further reply to Mr. WHALLEY,

SIR CHARLES ADDERLEY

said, full opportunity would be given for discussing the question before any steps were taken to sanction the scheme.
