asked the Under Secretary of State for India, Whether he is prepared to give an assurance to the House that no arrangement shall be entered into during the Recess which will throw upon India any permanent charge for the erection or maintenance of an Indian Museum in London?

LORD GEORGE HAMILTON

, in reply, said, that the Government of India had entered into a temporary arrangement for the exhibition of the Indian Museum at South Kensington which would not terminate until Christmas, and between now and next Session no arrangement would be made which would throw upon India any portion of the expense of the Indian Museum.
